Brumbies  rehomed

SEQ Brumby Association Inc has successfully rehomed 42+ brumbies.

Photos of some of those brumbies at their new homes are below.

TOOLARA

Toolara is a bay mare, approx 8 years old in the photo on the left and is tall for a brumby being approx 15.2hh.

She was trapped and removed from Tooloora State forest on 10 May 2010 and has been registered with the Australian Brumby Horse Register.

She is a lead mare and is very switched on and has been trained to accept the saddle however had limited riding experience (ie she has been ridden at a walk around the round yard a few times and that's it) before she was rehomed.

She is the best "doer" out of all our horses and with time and patience has the capacity to become a great riding horse.

If you have ever been to one of brumby training displays you may have seen Toolara in action.

GRACE

Grace is a chestnut mare aged somewhere between 10 to 14 years old (sorry we are not horse ageing via teeth experts, with your estimate being as good as ours).

She is 14.1hh

Grace was trapped and removed from Toolara State Forest on 7 June 2013, she had a yearling filly with her and was pregnant at the time. Since then the filly (Gypsy) has been rehomed as was her foal (Bo), see picture.

She has been halter trained with us and leads well. Requiring a lot of time and patience from a dedicated owner she could be trained to saddle but more suits the life of a companion horse or brood mare rather than riding horse.

COBBY AND ZORRO

Both Cobby (left) and Zorro (right) were broken to saddle by Dave Berman in 201_. They were rehomed back near their Toolara forestry origin but were not able to stay as their owner moved. They were then living back with Dave until they moved to their forever home with Sandy and her daughter Kimberley Robertson where they continue to build their slow but progressive relationship with their owners.

Zorro is the freindly one of the two and is always the first to greet whilst Cobby remains at a distance until he feels safe to approach.

They are both aproximately 7 years of age as of 2015.

Sandy and Kimberley plan to train Cobby and Zorro to harness as they are quite small to ride but with their trust in each other will hopefully do well pulling a cart.

BONNIE

Bonnie has also been rehomed with Sandy and Kimberley Robertson.

She was rehomed in the early stages of her pregnancy to the large stallion of the group and was trained to saddle buy a breaker on the Darling Downs but had a lot of trust issues and was frightened very easily. With copious amounts of TLC and hand feeding, she regained her trust and quietened immensely in the build up to her birth which was essential as the owners were worried she would have trouble with the large foal. Early one late winter morning she birthed the foal and had it standing by her side by dawn to the owner’s surprise. The foal in the photo is one day old and as you can see quite large. Now at 8 months old, he is already nearly as tall as her and very friendly. Due to his obsession with licking his owners and everyone who comes to meet him, he was named Baci (in Italian meaning kisses).

Bonnie is a very speedy horse who can go from a stop to sprint in meters making her perfect for camp drafting and barrel racing. She has also become very friendly mare and thoroughly enjoys getting TLC once on her own and not getting pushed around by her stallion son.

BLACK MAJICK

Has found a home with Hayley Chambers-Holt from Outback Equines

http://www.outbackequines.com/

Black Majick is extremely untrusting, 'bolty', and nervous of humans, but Hayley has found her to be quite trainable and is really looking forward to the challenge that a brumby will present her with.

Hayley's plan is take her from wild and unhandled, to a ridden, quiet and trustworthy horse that is capable of trail riding, horse archery, bareback/bridleless riding, liberty and trick horse training.
